Sunny Beach is situated 42 km north of Bourgas and 434 km east of Sofia. Practically, the resort is located on the whole territory between the land of the village Saint Vlas to the north and Nessebar to the south.
The resort, begun in 1958. The wide, six-kilometer-long beach is protected by dunes and touted as the best on the coast with comfortable 24C/75F degree water and loads of sunny days.
Nowadays, there are more than 120 hotels, two camping sites, and places of entertainment. Most hotels are set back from the beach, in numerous small shaded parks and gardens that help alleviate some of the congested feel.
The two camps Emona and Sunny Beach cover a large area and therefore the camping sites there are practically unlimited. There are also bungalows in the camps, and these can only be reserved in advance.
The international festival for popular song Golden Orpheus, the Decade festival of symphonic music, part of the International folklore festival, fashion-shows, various beach competitions are held there. The festival Golden Orpheus held in early June and features contemporary, Western-influenced pop and love ballads. There is an amphitheater with more than 1000 seats, where the Bourgas opera and philharmonic occasionally put on performances.
The resort has enough tennis-courts, swimming pools, bowling, mini-golf playgrounds, yachts and sailboats, opportunities to develop and practice all the water sports using the services of coaches, facilities and equipment, horse riding with coaches, a policlinic, and several big shopping centers for food, clothes and souvenirs.
Adult sports include windsurfing, sailing, parasailing, speedboating, scooter-driven parachuting, pedalboating, waterskiing, horseback riding, archery, mini-golf, roller and in-line skating, bowling, tennis, bicycling, beach volleyball, and wall climbing (for the truly bored). To soothe sore muscles after all that physical exertion there are balneo-therapy treatment centers.
Night Life is as equally varied and includes casinos, discos and nightclubs with live cabaret acts and colorful floor shows. Some 130 restaurants and taverns are accustomed to catering to foreign tastes so there's something for everyone.
Lots of excursions in the country and abroad are organized for holidaymakers and tourists. Nearby Nessebar is a favorite day-trip destination. Longer excursions to historic and scenic spots throughout Bulgaria, as well as to Greece and Turkey, can be arranged through local travel services.
The holiday complex of Zora is situated here, as well as the village of St.Vlas and Elenite. The town of Nessebar almost merges with the resort. The town of Pomorie is located 8km from Sunny Beach.
